A herbal conference for Black and Indigenous Herbalists and Community
Work Trade Opportunities
Help us have a successful event!
Our work trade helpers are the lifeline of our conference. We can not have a successful Gathering without the help of our dedicated support staff. No matter what role they play from manning the registration table to helping us set up/take down to parking cars, we appreciate all the hard work and time that each one of them provides to make this event the beautiful gift that it is.

It is our hope this year to recruit more individuals to help us pull off the Gathering without a hitch. This year we are offering work trade positions in lieu of volunteers. Applications will begin on July 2024.
2024 Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering Work Trade Program
Thank you for your interest in the 2024 Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering Work-Trade Program. If you are hardworking, responsible, and enjoy working ‘behind the scenes’ to create a magical event, work-trade is a great opportunity to be of help and service as we work together to create a fantastic and impactful Gathering.
Our work-trade team is responsible for numerous jobs that make the conference run smoothly. Tasks are assigned equally and fairly. There are tasks that require flexibility and immediate attention. However, most of our tasks are completed before and after the conference and still leave time for participating in classes and special events during the conference.

What the program offers:
In exchange for joining our work-trade program, work trade volunteers receive 50% off their admission fee for working between 8 hours during the Gathering and free tent camping on the property.
*Payment of or reimbursement for travel/lodging are not offered.
Program details and expectations:
We need our work-trade volunteers to be available at specific times throughout the day which can potentially interfere with times you may need to be with your children (if you have them with you at the conference). Because of this, we have found that it doesn’t work for people who are bringing their children to join the Work-Trade team.

It is mandatory that each work-trade member must be available from Friday morning October 11, 2024 through Sunday evening October 13, 2024 and should be prepared to work 8 hours total throughout the conference. All work-trade members must be able to be at the venue on Friday morning by 10:00 am for an orientation meeting and to begin our tasks. Please note that if you cannot be on site by 10:00 am on Friday, October 11, you will not be able to join our work-trade team.

Expectations:
The Work Trade Crew is vital to the success of this conference. Dependability, punctuality, flexibility and honesty are essential to being a part of this crew. While we will honor task preferences to the best extent possible, ALL work trade participants must be willing to work in any position needed. You will receive an I advance assignment, however unexpected things can occur during the conference that would cause us to need you to fill in on another position. Most shifts will require some light to medium lifting, standing, walking . If you need a stationary position, we will do our best to accommodate you if you let us know in advance on your application. Any concerns about expectations should be discussed before entering into the Work Trade program agreement.

We look forward to connecting with all the amazing people who are considering joining the 2024 Gullah Geechee Work-Trade Team and are committed to making this an especially magical event. Please note: We will not hold Work trade positions. Once you are approved , you will need to be prepared to register within 2 weeks of approval or your spot will be forfeited. If the conference is less than 30 days away when you are approved, registration will be required within 48 hours of approval.

If you are a good candidate and wish to apply for a work-trade position, please fill out the application for consideration. Be aware that work-trade positions are limited and it may be a few weeks before we can make final determinations. We appreciate your patience in advance.
