The Gathering Returns: Why the 2026 Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering Matters More Than Ever

In these chaotic and turbulent times, it's so important that we gather, not just to congregate but to learn and preserve our ways of life and traditions.

There are some traditions we cannot afford to lose. Like the way our elders spoke to the plants before harvesting. The way healing was passed down hand to hand, kitchen to kitchen, porch to porch. And more importantly the way community once gathered not just to learn, but to remember who they were.

In a world moving faster by the day, many of us are feeling the call to slow down, reconnect, and reclaim the wisdom that has carried our people for generations. That is why we gather at the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering.

From October 2-4, 2026, the Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering returns to my family's land on Johns Island, SC for our 5th Annual Gathering; a sacred weekend rooted in ancestral healing, herbal education, cultural preservation, and community care.

This year's theme, At Our Elders' Feet, is both an offering and a responsibility.

We are honoring the wisdom keepers from around the Diaspora while there is still time to sit with them, listen deeply, document their stories, and carry their teachings forward. Our elders are living libraries, many untapped and under recognized. Their memories, remedies, prayers, food ways, and cultural traditions deserve to be protected, celebrated and shared with the present and future generations.

The Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering is not a festival, and it's more than just an herbal conference.

It is a sacred container where Black herbalists, healers, growers, artists, teachers, and seekers come together to reconnect with traditions that have often been overlooked, erased, or separated from us. It is a place where culture and healing walk hand in hand.

Over the years, what began as a spiritual download, has grown into a beloved community gathering filled with workshops, cultural experiences, herbal education, marketplace vendors, healing practitioners, storytelling, and moments that remind us we are not alone in this work. And this year we return with an even deeper intention.

As we prepare for the 2026 Gathering, we invite you to join us in honoring the roots that continues to sustain us. Come learn from the elders. Come support Black herbalism. Come experience the beauty of gathering on Gullah Geechee owned land surrounded by people committed to healing, remembrance, and liberation.

Whether you are an experienced herbalist or someone who is simply beginning your journey, there is a place for you here. The Ancestors are calling, and the Gathering returns. We look forward to welcoming you into the circle, as we sit At Our Elders' Feet this October.
